An imposing antique earthenware jug with a dragon and acanthus leaf handle. Possibly made by Thomas Shirley & Co of Clyde Pottery Greenock, Scotland. This factory operated between 1840 and 1857. Has a feel of Doulton Lambeth to it. The stamp is a little unclear to the base, resembling TSVD rather than TS & C. In addition, there is an incised 2051 and a scored X to the underside. There is a small professional repair to the base. This work was carried out by our own ex Royal Doulton model maker and artist. The jug stands an impressive 15 inches high and weighs nearly 2Kgs.
