iAuctionShop forges relationship with Shine Africa The Gambia

July 22nd, 2008

SANDBACH, CHESHIRE, UK / July 22 2008. iAuctionShop Ltd has formed a sponsorship relationship with the Cheshire branch of Shine Africa in The Gambia and will be promoting their work with children and schools in The Gambia.
Shine – Africa is a U.K. registered charity that helps support Nursery Education covering the age range of three to seven year olds in The Gambia, West Africa. As a charity it works closely with families, communities and the Gambian Education Department to assist Gambian Nursery Children.

Ian and Glynn Jones from Weaverham, Cheshire visited a nursery school in Mandirani when they were on holiday in 1996 and found that it was in desperate need of a new building and educational resources. The generosity of the Gambian people despite their poverty inspired them to raise funds on their return to England for them to build a school. The need for educational resources became more obvious and the gratitude of the people who see education as a gift rather than a right encouraged them to continue with the project. Funds continued through many people’s commitment and involvement and when the school was established with furniture and equipment Ian and Glynn realised they were able to assist other schools in the Gambia, as they too had a great need for the ‘gift of education’.
WHAT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED SO FAR?
· They have built and funded three nursery schools:
· Mandinari Village Nursery School
· Bundung Serrekunda Shine-Africa School
· Saaba Shine –Africa Nursery School
· They have upgraded 2 other nursery schools
· Provided a village library at Mandinari
· Upgraded the village clinic and provided equipment including baby scales, blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, instruments for examining ears, eyes and throat, diabetic testing machine, crutches and medicine etc.
· Have helped the local economy by providing locally made tables and chairs for the 3 nursery schools.
· Provided school equipment for many nursery schools- exercise books, pens, pencils, crayons, reading books, counting equipment, footballs, various sized balls, children’s blackboards, chalk, teachers equipment, paper, visual aids for the children with number and alphabet cards, providing educational posters besides helping with much needed reading books.
· Given out more than 3,500 mosquito nets.
· Provided a clean, safe well for Mandinari
iAuctionShop Ltd’s aim is to help raise more funds that will directly affect the lives of Gambian children. A £3.50 gift of a mosquito net will save lives, and a £22 annual sponsorship of a child will provide two school uniforms, annual school fees and a mosquito net.

iAuctionShop – once eBay’s largest pottery outlet removes its final item from listing on eBay

July 12th, 2007
SANDBACH, CHESHIRE, UK / July 12 2007. iAuctionShop has today removed its last listing from eBay. From a high of 6,500 product lines in 2005 and in common with many professional dealers, iAuctionShop is turning its back on eBay as a sales outlet.

Having been fully engaged members of the eBay community since 2002 and at one time running its full-time business almost entirely on eBay, iAuctionShop has finally removed its last listing from that site. iAuctionShop Ltd’s Managing Director Simon Russell stated “…it was a very straightforward decision to make in the end. Buyer apathy, ridiculous pricing expectations, fraud and ever increasing fees and tinkering from eBay’s strange management team combined to make the profitability of the eBay marketplace woefully poor. It was actually quite a sad day for us. My wife started the business part-time in 2004 and we enthusiastically embraced every innovation, idea or piece of advice that came out of eBay, opening a store, eventually upgrading it to Anchor level and investing thousands of man hours into making it into a great place for eBay buyers to browse. When eBay’s much reported removal of Stores in Search combined with the huge increase in Stores fees finally hit, the management team resolved that iAuctionShop’s relationship with eBay had to come to an end.

The margins being achieved by iAuctionShop on eBay had been steadily eroding from a high in 2004/2005 to the unacceptable levels being seen during 2007. Fewer visitors coupled with the attitude ‘I’ll only buy it if it’s really cheap’ and the ever-present threat of PayPal chargebacks by fraudulent buyers caused iAuctionShop’s management team to concentrate on its own websites and other on-line marketplaces where the company’s commitment to Customer Delight would be better appreciated. iAuctionShop Director Rebecca Russell read a well-researched article by David Steiner of www.auctionbytes.com titled ‘Data points to Problems on eBay.com’. Rebecca commented “The article’s content absolutely mirrored our own experience in the eBay marketplace over the past couple of years. We were receiving scores of emails and telephone calls every day telling us that our prices were too high as ‘one sold on eBay last month for a couple of pounds’, and ridiculous offer after offer at perhaps 10% of the listed price. eBay really had become the new car boot sale where everything has to go for pennies and customer service is not valued”.

At its peak on eBay, *iAuctionShop was the largest pottery and porcelain outlet in the UK as evidenced by eBay Pulse, listing some 6,500 product lines. These lines are now listed on www.rscollect.co.uk, www.iauctionshop.co.uk, www.specialistauctions.com and as an Amazon Merchants@ partner iAuctionShop on Amazon.

iAuctionShop Director Simon Russell intends writing a more detailed account of the ups and downs of his company’s experience of utilising eBay as a sales outlet and the methods that eBay has adopted to keep its sellers too busy to look outside the eBay marketplace. Please contact the author to reserve an advanced copy of this account.

iAuctionShop acts to protect pottery market from possibility of fakes

SANDBACH, CHESHIRE, UK / Nov 15 2006. iAuctionShop locates over eighty impression and printing stamps from major and minor Staffordshire pottery factories and buys them to remove them from the marketplace.

iAuctionShop Ltd (trading as Rebecca & Simon’s Antiques and Collectables) of Cheshire, UK acted swiftly when they heard about the availability of a cache of ex Staffordshire pottery factory backstamps. About 80 stamps are in the cache from manufacturers such as Aynsley, Coalport, Royal Doulton, Susie Cooper, Wade, Wedgwood, the Wedgwood Collectors Club toefther with a large number of smaller factory marks.

Concerned with the ever increasing number of fakes and forgeries appearing on major on-line auction sites as well as at traditional auction, iAuctionShop immediately offered to buy them at an inflated price aiming to protect the marketplace.

Photographic images and further details are available at http://www.rscollect.co.uk/backstamp%20collection.htm.

As large suppliers of pottery and porcelain figures, iAuctionShop along with other dealers has become concerned at the rise in fake Beswick, Doulton and Worcester figures in particular finding their way from the Far East to western markets. The effect has been to dent buyer confidence and to drive prices for genuine pieces down. The stamps are being stored in a secure location but are available for inspection by appointment. iAuctionShop Ltd trades as R & S Collectables listing about 5,000 product lines across several internet sales venues;

THE ONE-STOP AUCTION SHOP
WHAT STARTED OUT AS A PART-TIME HOBBY FOR REBECCA AND SIMON RUSSELL IS NOW A SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

From rag dolls to robots, paperweights to porcelain, iAuctionShop offers replacement tableware, antiques, traditional clockwork and tin plate toys, glassware, paintings, pictures, postcards, ephemera, books and much more. The website has a stock of about a quarter of a million replacement tableware items, with new items arriving daily from the many auctions iAuctionShop staff visit each month.

Rebecca and Simon Russell formed iAuctionShop Ltd after their part-time hobby –R & S Collectables began to occupy all of their spare time. Simon left his job as a director at a computer manufacturer towards the end of last year to jointly head up the team that includes Rebecca, Janet Milner, Chloe Nuttall and Chairman Stuart Russell. Having begun operations from a converted garage at Rebecca and Simon’s home, iAuctionShop now operates out of a 200 year old mill in the historic Saxon market town of Sandbach, in rural Cheshire – close to the Staffordshire Potteries, whose auction houses provide much of iAuctionShop’s stock.

PERFECT PLATES

As well as offering a wide range of antique and collectable dolls and teddies from its own stock, iAuctionShop has a commercial client whose items also appear on the site. iAuctionShop has a number of clients for whom it sells, and many have become personal friends. The company is interested to hear from businesses or collectors with excess stock of high value items who might wish to use this selling service. Please note, however, that iAuctionShop rarely buys from individuals and is unable to offer free valuations or other advice. The company has a stock of several hundred collector plates and more than 200 figurines. If you are hunting for a plate or figure to complete your collection log onto www.iauctionshop.co.uk or send an email to collectorplates@iauctionshop.co.uk.

Since iAuctionShop visits auctions regularly, it will only be a matter of time before your plate is located. You might even spot Rebecca on Flog it! or Bargain Hunt as she is bidding on it.

iAuctionShop is fortunate to have retained the services of Pete Hancock, an ex Royal Doulton artist and model maker whose restoration work is of the highest quality. We will happily quote for the repair of a cherished item. For an estimate, please send good quality photographs to repair@iauctionshop.co.uk.

MATCHBOX MODELS

iAuctionShop has a large collection of more than one hundred 1970s and 1980s Matchbox Models of Yesteryear. The models are in mint conditions, are boxed and come with a certificate where appropriate. Another growth area for iAuctionShop is its line of traditional wooden and tin plate clockwork and battery-operated Schylling and other toys. Many are limited editions with certificates and the range includes tilting and rotating horse and motorcar racing games, cow sounders and various robots including an unusual French Maid and even one that breathes smoke!
