A vintage earthenware steinware or stein ware jug. Manufactured by Gerz GmbH in Sessenbach Germany. Dates around 1960's. Stands a whopping 13 1/2 inches 35cms high and weighs in at 2300g. In superb condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. A light, fine and even crazing to the glaze. Most probably originally came with a lid. Decorated with typical scenes of merriment and with a fruiting vine frieze to the top and a rather magnificent stylised lion's head below the spout. The handle is decorated with a woman's torso and arms at the top becoming an acanthus leaf at its bottom.
